Lenten Journey

As part of our Lenten journey, we will be exploring our faith.  The only leader for our journey is Jesus.  The aim is to discover more about who God is and who we are.

Week 2 - Flat out for Jesus.

Beginning on Ash Wednesday, Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. We remember how Jesus went into the desert for forty days. Lent is sometimes marked by taking up new things or giving things up. Shrove Tuesday - which is the day before Ash Wednesday, is when we use up all milk, eggs and fat by making pancakes.

The Church also has a tradition of not speaking or singing the word Alleluia during Lent - this is like putting away your very favourite toy for a while – to appreciate it more later.

Challenge

Pancake Race

  • Take part in the Pancake race.  There will be spare pans and pancakes.  Ask your parents to join in.  Prizes of Easter Eggs and lollies.

Say Goodbye to ‘Alleluia’

  • . Colour the words Alleluia on this sheet, and decorate it with glitter or crazy stuff.  Then hide it or ask your parents to hide it somewhere.  It will remain out of sight and hidden until Easter Day, when you will have the job of finding where it was hidden, and bring ‘Alleluia’ into the light again.  Bring your ‘Alleluias’ with you to Church on Easter day to decorate our prayer tree or wall poster.  Then we can all celebrate and shout at last - Alleluia - Jesus has risen.
